Petrochemical Construction Materials

The economy depends on cost-efficient energy, and in the petrochemical and refinery industries, in particular, materials must be transported safely and efficiently in order to reduce the risks posed to humans, property, and the environment — all while eliminating the need for accident- and failure-related costs, labor, and maintenance. For these reasons, highly durable, corrosion resistant materials are essential.

Given the inevitable wear and tear that pipeline equipment is subjected to, as well as the corrosive agents — both natural and synthetic — that damage the equipment over time, the materials used to construct these pipelines must offer ultimate strength and durability. Luckily, new innovations and technology continue to strengthen vital infrastructure, with high-performance solutions — including corrosion resistant metals, acid resistant pipe, rust resistant pipe, rust resistant tubing, and acid resistant tubing — offering optimal safety, efficiency, and longevity.

Petrochemical Pipes

Corrosion Resistant Pipes & Tubing for Petrochemical Construction

Continental Steel is proud to offer the chemical resistant pipe and tubing that is so vital to the petrochemical industry. Below are some of the most common corrosion resistant materials we use in our products.

  • Steel — Continental Steel works with carbon and alloy steel, as well as stainless, in a huge range of applications. Most of the metals listed below are fundamental in creating corrosion resistant steel.
  • Nickel — Nickel increases the strength and corrosion resistance of steel alloys, allowing for the creation of versatile, reliable materials that can be used in various applications, such as the gas and liquefied natural gas industries.
  • Copper — This conductive metal is a natural fit for industries involving heat transfer. Also, copper sulfates absorb mercury, the lethal element drawn out of natural gas during processing.
  • Titanium — Famous for its use in NASA’s space shuttles, titanium is a critical metal in the energy industry and is used to strengthen steel’s durability and corrosive resistance.
  • Chromium — One of the first metals ever used with steel, chromium is still an important material today. Its resistance to carbon dioxide and extremely high temperatures makes it ideal for deep oil and gas wells. Chromium use has spiked with the recent boom in shale drilling.
  • Molybdenum — Used to strengthen steel and its resistance to corrosives, molybdenum also spurs the removal of sulfur during the oil refining process.

Using Our Products in Petrochemical Plants

Continental Steel’s products are widely used in the construction of petrochemical plants; these dynamic, multifaceted infrastructures are highly complex and require an array of different corrosion resistant pipes and systems — all of which must be able to withstand the unique, severe conditions of this industry. Our products provide reliable resistance to the corrosives, oxidation, and varying degrees of pressurization inherent in petrochemical applications.

We have over two decades of experience working with the materials listed above, manufacturing high-performance, corrosion resistant steel pipes, corrosion resistant tubing, and other products specifically designed to withstand corrosion, rust, acid, and harsh chemical processes that lead to deterioration.
